GRANDVILLE, Michigan – X-Rite is revolutionizing shade-matching of teeth for dentists and laboratories. Shade quality relies on accuracy and reliable, repeatable results. However, achieving accuracy is difficult when relying on the subjectivity of human eyes and uncontrollable lighting variables within the testing environment.
The color experts at X-Rite are providing the solution. The Shade-Rite Dental Vision System offers consistent and accurate shade measurement technology. Not only will it increase patient satisfaction, it can reduce the cost of the procedure by eliminating the additional time required if an unsatisfactory restoration must be reworked. More importantly, Shade-Rite improves communication between the dentist and the laboratory. Affordable and cordless, this technology has been designed for convenience and accuracy.
The Shade-Rite Dental Vision System is a handheld device that uses precision optical measurement technologies that respond to light in a similar manner to that of the human eye. The shade-matching instrument is able to accurately identify the shade of the tooth by measuring the tooth color in terms of hue, value and chroma.
The dentist simply points the exclusive, cone shaped sensor at the tooth that is to be replaced--if that tooth is still intact--and presses the read button. Then, to obtain a complete and accurate reading, the dentist points it at the surrounding teeth and repeats the process. The instrument will accurately capture and determine the colorimetric values of all the affected teeth. The dentist is able to communicate the color variations for the replacement with accurate data described in a color map, which is necessary for the laboratories to create the prosthetic replacement. The instrument incorporates a precise, consistent light source that ensures correct color assessment. Once the images are captured, the Shade-Rite system uploads the images to the dentist's personal computer for processing, which can be documented in the patient's files. All necessary information is provided to the laboratory by means of electronic file, disc or printed report. The laboratory is able to review all of the images and information that was gathered during the evaluation process. The result is a valuable, effective source of accurate communication between the dentist and the laboratory.
When the Shade-Rite system is not being used, it is stored on a docking station. There, the instrument is connected to a personal computer via a USB interface. The interface provides a high-speed data link, instrument power and "plug and play" device detection. Images are transferred from the instrument to the computer through the docking station so that the dentist can review the information that has been gathered. Shade-Rite utilizes Windows®-based software that has been designed by X-Rite, so that it is compatible with most dentists' systems.
Laboratories use Shade-Rite to recall all of the images that were taken, along with the color map, from which a restoration will be created. They also have the opportunity to control the quality of their work by using the hand-held device to measure the completed restoration. Considering the laboratory's need for accurate information from the dentist, the highest level of quality and consistency comes from the laboratory and the dentist closing the loop of communication using the Shade-Rite technology.
