CHICAGO, Illinois – The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) and the AGD Foundation (AGDF) are pleased to announce a $500,000 strategic partnership with Nobel Biocare and Perio Institute, which will provide general dentists with the most up-to-date continuing dental education (CDE) implant and implant restoration programs in the dental industry.
As presented by the Perio Institute, funded with help from AGDF and underwritten by Nobel Biocare, this partnership will afford dental professionals access to implant related courses held at AGD's Annual Meeting, regional workshops, Web-based CDE programs and articles in AGD's clinical, peer-reviewed journal, General Dentistry. We are pleased to partner with AGD and the Perio Institute to provide state-of-the-art educational programs for the industry, says Heliane Canepa, president and CEO of Nobel Biocare. AGD's commitment to providing its members and the dental profession with the finest in continuing dental education programs and resources attracted us to partner with AGD on this initiative. Our partnership will provide AGD members and the dental profession with a prime opportunity to learn how to help fulfill patients needs for dental implants, says AGD President Thomas A. Howley, DDS, MAGD. I hope everyone committed to improving oral health and advancing patient care will take advantage of these educational offerings. Every minute in the U.S., a patient loses a tooth. Missing teeth can result in decreased chewing ability, poor appearance, loss of self-esteem, increased crowding, additional tooth or bone loss and increased oral and general disease. Dental implants provide a safe and effective form of treatment for tooth loss. Innovative products and techniques, as well as high overall success rates, are resulting in increased usage and acceptance of implants. Increasingly, patient needs for implants are outpacing dentists capability to present them with options for implant treatment. Doug Proudlock, President of the Perio Institute, states Now, more than ever before, dentists and their hygienists need to be able to service the implant requirements of their patients. This partnership will provide continuing dental education to meet these needs. AGD and Nobel Biocare both recognize that the general dentist is and will remain the key practitioner in advancing the use and promotion of dental implant services, says AGD Executive Director Gerald Jay Donohue, Jr., CAE, CMP. This partnership will address today's patients priority needs for dental implants while giving dentists the education to help them meet their patient s requests.
